Our Itinerary Highlights
Here’s a sneak peek into our exciting itinerary that’s filled with history, culture, and, of course, the festive spirit of Christmas markets on the AmaLea Ship with AmaWaterways!
Day 1: Nuremberg, Germany – Embarkation
We’ll board our ship and settle in, ready to kick off our Iconic Christmas Markets cruise.
Day 2: Nuremberg
We’ll start with a city tour focusing on WWII highlights, followed by a stroll through Nuremberg’s cobblestone streets to the majestic Imperial Castle. I’m particularly looking forward to visiting the famous Christkindlesmarkt, one of the largest Christmas markets in the world, where we can shop for unique gifts and indulge in seasonal treats.
Day 3: Regensburg
Next up is Regensburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll join a guided walking tour, marveling at its stunning medieval architecture. I’m torn between sampling Bavarian delicacies or exploring the Christmas market. Either way, this day promises a taste of authentic German culture!
Day 4: Passau
Passau, known for its Gothic and Baroque architecture, awaits us! We’ll explore the city’s Christmas market and have the option to venture to Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace. The thought of wandering through Salzburg’s charming streets and experiencing its festive market is exhilarating.
Day 5: Melk, Austria – Vienna
We’ll visit the breathtaking Melk Abbey before cruising through the scenic Wachau Valley, arriving in Vienna. I can’t wait to discover the grandeur of this city, with its splendid opera house and imperial history, all while soaking up the festive atmosphere of its Christmas markets.
Day 6: Vienna
Our adventure continues in Vienna, where we’ll explore the historic city center and the stunning Schönbrunn Palace, adorned with a magnificent Christmas tree. This day promises to be a visual feast!
Day 7: Budapest, Hungary
Finally, we’ll make our way to Budapest, where we’ll traverse both Buda and Pest. I’m especially excited about exploring the Castle District and visiting the renowned Christmas markets, soaking in the rich history and culture of this magnificent city.
Day 8: Farewell
As we disembark in Budapest, I know I’ll be leaving with unforgettable memories and a newfound appreciation for river cruising. This journey promises not just stunning sights, but also the joy of shared experiences with my dear friend Julie.
