You read that correctly. I booked a nonstop roundtrip ticket from Chicago to Florida for $55 a person. This might be one of the best kept secrets if you aren’t familiar with Spirit Airlines. A lot of people are apprehensive of paying a yearly fee for a deal. Let’s face it, paying for a deal sometimes doesn’t work out to be a REAL deal. If you use this membership for all its benefits regularly, you can travel more and have extra cash while doing it.
The membership costs about $60 a year, though I was able to become a member off a promotion for $39.95 while buying my first spirit fare. It renews automatically so make sure you mark the renew date in the calendar if you decide to cancel. Once it charges, it is non-refundable.
Ok, now that we have covered the logistics, let’s talk savings. The $9 fare club is just that, fares for $9! You will receive an email confirmation stating the cheap fares are posted on their website, then GO! Book the flight immediately if you can, the best flight times fill up fast. These promotions are listed regularly, some starting at $9, $34, $69 per person, each way! Other benefits include only $18 per checked bag and the ability to book travel for your family at the same membership rates if they are traveling with you. One thing to beware of is that you will not get around the checked baggage fee. Other than a personal purse or laptop bag, carry ons will cost you. My tip: Don’t lug it, check it!
Spirit Airlines might not be the fanciest of flights, but it will get you where you want to be for cheap. We even splurged and got my infant a seat, when he would have flown free on my lap.
Check www.spirit.com for route information. They even have great flights to the Caribbean. Contact me to find you the best value on a resort!
